Netfiles brings a fresh wind to the project

Under the motto "Because wind is driving us!", The UKA Group - Environmentally friendly power plants - has been developing and implementing renewable energy projects nationwide since 1999. The focus is on wind energy projects. Documentation and exchange of the extensive project documents takes place via the cloud.

The group covers the entire lifecycle of such a project. The services range from the selection and securing of suitable sites through project development and obtaining all necessary permits to the turnkey construction and operation of the wind farms. Project financing and sales are also part of the remit. To date, more than 50 wind energy projects have already been implemented.

From the folder to the virtual data room

"Until 2006, the extensive project documents were compiled in traditional binders, from then on, the various project participants such as employees from the UKA companies, banks, authorities and potential investors received the data on CD-ROM. Extensions and additions were exchanged by e-mail, "recalls Christina Börner, Deputy Head of Department in the operational area of the UKA Zentralgesellschaft, on the previous procedure. In 2012, her colleague, IT Director Tino Schwarze, noted that "due diligence" testing for a new project was "very hot" because confidential data was simply sent by e-mail between the project partners.

User administration becomes a stumbling block

However, this pilot project does not lead to the desired success. Tino Schwarze recalls: "The use of such an online platform is particularly important to us in terms of user administration and, in particular, the assignment of roles and rights. During the course of the project, many different project participants access the data. It must be ensured that each of these parties only has access to the documents for which he also has the necessary authorization. "Unfortunately, the user management and especially the assignment of roles and rights turned out to be much too complicated for the solution used in the pilot project then meant the "off" for the solution.Success in the second attempt

For this reason, Tino Schwarze again went in search of a better data room solution as an alternative to the previously used CD-ROM / e-mail combination and came across Netfiles via Internet research . As Software-as-a-Service ( SaaS) provides a virtual data room for cross-site data exchange and secure delivery of highly confidential documents. The Netfiles servers are located in a highly secure data center in Germany. The IT security procedures have been certified by TÜV Süd according to ISO / IEC 27001. As a Germany-based provider, the company is subject to the strict requirements of the Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG). UKA currently uses the Netfiles Enterprise solution and has set up a total of 50 Netfiles Datarooms.
