The office is mobile

Leaner processes and increased efficiency - with these goals in mind, in many companies IT should be trimmed to greater efficiency and reoriented accordingly. But the public sector faces similar challenges.
Under the heading of "modernization", many municipalities are currently embarking on initiatives that are transforming the authorities into modern service centers for citizens. An important role is played by mobile devices. In the future, it should also be possible via smartphone or tablet to retrieve the services of the office and to communicate with them efficiently.
At the same time, the public service would like to offer its employees the possibilities of mobile work. This allows, for example, the administrative staff in a council meeting or the employee of the construction office on the spot uncomplicated insight into important documents.
Further away
The way there is still conceivable far. After all, many public institutions still have a variety of different IT systems that are difficult to reconcile. The cloud encounters as a flexible alternative, however, in many places to rejection. In particular, safety concerns prevent the use of this technology. By using a so-called private cloud, it would be easy to keep the data within your own building. The basis for this is the virtualization of server, storage and network resources. This step also reduces the number of physical servers and maintenance. Since each PC can serve as a client at the same time, even a heterogeneous landscape from different computers can easily be transferred to a cloud structure. This allows consolidation in several stages and protects the municipal budgets.
virtualization
Wherever virtualization is used, new opportunities open up with regard to mobile working. After all, one of the basic philosophies of virtualization is the strict separation between device and data.
This brings freedoms that go so far as to be able to work even on private devices with very sensitive documents: The streamed desktop on the device is still within the secure cloud infrastructure of the authority and has no direct connection to the hardware of the device.
Now many public institutions will continue to pay attention to the use of government-owned computers and insist on a strictly professional use. But even in this case, virtualization offers many advantages . This allows devices to be deleted remotely in the event of theft, the entire security architecture is based on the standards in the data center, and data theft can be effectively prevented by numerous mechanisms.
